10 Daily Habits for a Healthy Heart
Small choices repeated every day protect your heart more than any single treatment — here are the ten that matter most.

Most heart disease is preventable. These ten habits, backed by decades of research, are the foundation of a heart-healthy life at any age.
1. Move for 30 minutes
Brisk walking counts. Aim for at least 30 minutes most days — it lowers blood pressure, sugar and stress at the same time.
2. Do not smoke — at all
Smoking damages every artery in your body. Quitting is the single most powerful gift you can give your heart; the benefit starts within days.
3. Eat more plants
Vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts and olive oil — a Mediterranean-style plate protects arteries. Limit fried food, processed meat and sugary drinks.
4. Watch your salt
Keep salt under one teaspoon a day in total. Taste before you sprinkle, and beware of hidden salt in bread, cheese and pickles.
5. Sleep 7–8 hours
Short, broken sleep raises blood pressure and weight. Treat sleep like an appointment you cannot miss.
6. Know your numbers
Blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and weight. Check them at least once a year — high values cause no symptoms until damage is done.
7. Manage stress
Chronic stress keeps your heart racing. Prayer, breathing exercises, walking in nature and time with family genuinely lower cardiac risk.
8. Keep a healthy weight
Even losing 5% of body weight measurably improves blood pressure and sugar.
9. Limit sitting
Stand and move for a few minutes every hour. Long uninterrupted sitting is an independent risk factor.
10. Take your medications
If you have been prescribed blood pressure, cholesterol or diabetes medication, take it every day — these drugs prevent heart attacks silently.
Start with one habit this week. Your heart keeps the score, and every day counts.
